What is your purpose?
You know you have one. Your heart is beating. You exist for a reason.
What is it?
For such a simple question, the answer is profound. It can also feel daunting, complex, puzzling, and overwhelming as all get-out.
Some of us are blessed to have our purpose seemingly plop into our laps. I remember when I was in India, talking to my yoga teacher, Vinay Kumar, and asking him how he knew he was meant to teach. He responded, “I just started teaching when I was twelve. I knew it was my path.”
Let me tell you, I was both awed and extremely envious of the certainty of his knowing.
On the other hand, some of us are blessed in a different way. We may find ourselves on an arduous road of seeking what our purpose is. What is our unique “thing?”
If you are anything like me, you have stumbled along this path. You’ve looked under rocks, behind trees, took a tumble down into the brush, and fell flat on your face in the dirt many times – looking, searching, asking “Are you my purpose?”
Here’s the funny thing I learned about purpose.
It’s right under your nose.
It’s actually hilarious if you really think about it, that we look for it outside of ourselves. We think we are going to find it in our education, a relationship, a job, with money, and even in service to others.
But your purpose is so unique – there is no WAY you can experience it outside of yourself.
YOU are your purpose.
Pause. Let that sink in.
Maybe you are thinking right now… OK, Danielle, that’s a powerful statement…but WTF does that really mean???
Your existence, your being, your presence is your purose.
Your purpose is authenticity.
Your purpose is being you.
Your purpose is showing up…
And Deciding to LIVE
When you look around you, how many people in your life are walking around like they are half-alive? If you notice this, you are awakening. And you know it because you “see dead people.” You see people not fully showing up for their lives.
How does it make you feel to witness others not fully believing in themselves, holding themselves back from their dreams, halting their truest desires before they even have a chance to breathe?
It feels like shit!
We don’t wish this on anyone.
So how do you change it?
What does it really mean to be ALIVE with purpose?
This is a deeply personal question with an infinite number of answers. Here’s my start.
It means waking up each day an choosing to be true to yourself. To follow your Inner Compass and your North Star. To treat yourself as well as you treat others (I call this the Platinum Rule!), to take steps towards your own fulfillment and to chose to live life by your OWN values and measure your success by your OWN standards.
It means loving all aspects of yourself…even the parts that aren’t so pretty, or (you think) are downright ugly. It means that even when you are going through Hell…you just keep going! It means trusting your gut and believing in the good you offer the world. It means knowing that you are here, serving yourself and others as your best self – whether its pouring a cup of coffee or building an orphanage. It’s fully appreciating yourself and your life.
It’s knowing that ANYTHING you do to heal yourself, to accept more of who you are, to live more as your WHOLE self, is absolutely, without a shadow of a doubt, also healing the very same thing in the collective consciousness.
You are special.
And I am not just blowing smoke up your ass.
Your ideas are valuable. Your message is crucial. You are needed.
You are JUST what the world needs.
Or you wouldn’t be here.
